Roger began studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1991 and was promoted to Black Belt in 2007. He was Fabio Araujo&amp;rsquo;s first BJJ Black Belt in the United States. He is a MMA studio in New Haven, CT, where he teaches and coaches/manages professional and amateur MMA fighters.&lt;/p&gt;

Are you entirely new to martial arts, or just new to BJJ? What are your goals? Are you trying to lose weight and get in better shape? Do you hope to improve your self-defense ability? Do you hope to compete eventually? Do you have any previous injuries or health limitations that we need to know about? Letting the instructors know what your background is and what you hope to accomplish will help them to give you recommendations and guide you through class in the way that best fits your needs. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

You should bring comfortable athletic shoes for cardio/conditioning. However, for purposes of cleanliness and hygiene, no shoes are allowed on the wrestling mat. Jiu Jitsu and grappling apparel will be available for purchase in our pro shop as well. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

The instructor will then proceed to lead the class in whatever techniques and positions are being covered during that particular class. Following instructor demonstrations, students will participate in training drills to practice the techniques that were taught. Class typically ends with students pairing up for grappling; there will be several rounds with breaks in-between. If you are a beginner, you will most likely be paired with a more experienced student who can give you some direction and guidance to help you start out. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
